DUE TO A LARGE BACKLOG, I AM NOT ACCEPTING ANY NEW WORK AT THIS TIME
The first priority on a 1911 is usually
reliability tuning. The factory extractors can be tuned but I
find that replacing them with a quality bar stock part, such as the BFP
extractor, is a better option since
these parts tend to hold their tension for much longer. At the
same time, I recommend replacing the firing pin stop with an oversize part because this will keep the extractor from moving and give
much more consistent extraction. The Reliability Package includes
this as well as a few other items to help ensure reliable feeding.
Good quality magazines are also critical to having a 1911 that
functions reliably and this is a part that is often overlooked.
Trigger tuning is usually next. Depending on the condition and
quality of your factory parts, a trigger job can be done using
your existing ignition parts or they can be replaced. A Series
80 1911 can have a nice trigger, it just requires the proper adjustment
of the safety levers that lift the firing pin plunger, especially
if a trigger with an overtravel stop is installed since limiting
the travel of the trigger also limits the travel of the Series
80 safety levers. An oversize match trigger fit to your pistol
will make the trigger pull feel crisper and more consistent by
replacing the loose, sloppy factory trigger. I've had the BFP trigger
specially made for me. It is a Videcki-style trigger that has a
permanently attached overtravel stop installed in the rear and no hole in the
front of the trigger.
Lots of improvements can be made at this point. The sights can
be replaced, the accuracy can be improved by fitting a new barrel
bushing or a match grade barrel and bushing combo. The gripping
surfaces can be improved by serrating, checkering or stippling
the front strap and mainspring housing and the grips themselves
can be replaced. A 1911 can also be modified to allow you to
grip it higher by relieving under the trigger guard and installing
a beavertail grip safety thus reducing felt recoil and muzzle
rise. A different shaped thumb safety can be installed, the sharp
edges can be removed and a new finish can be applied.
Ive mentioned some of the more popular modifications and
many more are available as well. If you are interested in a modification
not listed on the price list, please ask me about it.
