The BFP (Basic Fighting Pistol) is a basic practical carry gun built by upgrading the 1911 that you supply. The pistol is tuned to increase reliability while improving accuracy and ergonomics at the same time.

NEW!  The BFP is now available as a complete pistol built with a Caspian slide and frame along with a stainless steel semi drop-in barrel. I believe that this pistol represents one of the best values available in a custom pistol.

The BFP starts with improvements to the sights. The MEUSOC replica rear sight is a rugged high profile sight machined from heat treated 4140 steel so it will take abuse and is strong enough to cycle the slide by pushing it against a solid object. The .140 wide sight notch gives a little extra light on both sides of the front sight in your sight picture. I think that this helps in acquiring a rapid sight picture without sacrificing accuracy. This is paired with a black serrated Novak dovetail front sight that is secured to the slide with a pin. Novak makes a big variety of sights so if you decide that you want to use a different style of front sight later, it can easily be changed.

Accuracy is improved by fitting a match barrel bushing to your factory barrel. This is probably the single greatest accuracy improvement that you can do to a 1911 pistol. I usually fit the barrel bushing finger tight so it can be removed without a wrench but I can fit it tighter if you wish. The muzzle is re-crowned flush with the barrel bushing. An oversized slide stop (.200 diameter pin) also helps reduce the play in the chamber end of the barrel. An oversized trigger is fit to the frame with a minimum amount of vertical movement. My triggers have a permanent overtravel stop that will never come loose. The front of the trigger is also solid instead of having a hole for adjusting the set screw. Berryhill Ultimate ignition parts are installed with a crisp 4 to 4.5 lb trigger pull.

Your standard Government Model grip safety is modified so that a Commander hammer can be used with it and the edges are slightly rounded. The pistol is tuned for reliable functioning including the installation of a new bar stock extractor and an oversized firing pin stop to keep the extractor from moving or "clocking." The ejection port is lowered and flared and a bar stock ejector is fit and tuned to allow the ejection of a loaded cartridge. All sharp edges are carefully removed without ruining the classic lines and then the entire pistol is refinished.

Options and upgrades are available such as sights, safeties and textures for the front strap and mainspring housing.
