ORDERING & SHIPPING INFO

I keep a waiting list rather than storing your firearm for an extended length of time. I will contact you approximately 2 weeks before I’m ready to start on your project and you can ship your pistol and deposit at that time. Currently my waiting list is about 2 years long. This is an approximate time so your wait might be a little longer or shorter. If you would like to be placed on my waiting list, please follow the following steps:

  1. Go to my Gunsmithing page, select 1911 Gunsmithing Info or one of the packages and then click on the AutoQuote link on that page.  Check the boxes for the package, options or individual items that you are interested in. There is space for your comments, special instructions, etc. at the bottom of the page.
  2. Fill in all of the personal information and firearm information boxes. Read and understand all of the information on this page and then check the box indicating that you have done this. You must type something in each of these boxes, even if you are just getting a quote, or you will not be able to proceed to the next step.  None of this information is saved or sent to anyone.
  3. Click on the “Get Quote” button and you will get a summary of your work and your personal information. If you want to make any changes to your quote, click the “Back” button on your browser, make the necessary changes to the form and click the “Get Quote” button again to get your updated quote.
  4. Print a copy of the quote for your own records and a second copy for me if you are going to place yourself on my waiting list.
  5. Mail a copy of your quote to me and request that I place you on my waiting list. I do not get copies of your quote automatically and will not receive your quote unless you mail one to me. I will send you an email and confirm that you’ve been placed on the waiting list when I receive your quote.

If you have questions, email them to me before you send your order. I’ll be glad to answer your questions and help you decide what work needs to be done and it’s much easier to do this before you mail your quote. If you are interested in work that isn’t listed send me an email and I’ll give you a quote on it. Once you have sent your quote and are on the waiting list, make notes of any changes that you’d like to make on your copy of the quote. We’ll make those changes to your order when it’s time to ship your firearm to the shop.

ORDER INFORMATION

I’ll notify you about two weeks before I’m ready to start work on your firearm. At that time you can ship your firearm along with your deposit and advise me of any changes that you’d like to make to your project. I will confirm the work order with you before starting any work. Once I begin work I may not be able to make changes to your order. I'll work with you the best that I can but some modifications are not reversible. It's usually not a problem to add work but if you decide to do something like switching from a BoMar sight to a Novak and I have already machined your slide, I won’t be able to change it.

The amount of time it takes to complete the work on your gun depends upon the work done and type of finish it is getting. Unfortunately I don’t have any control over the subcontractors that do some of the refinishing and the better companies have backlogs too. The prices quoted are for carbon (blue) steel parts. Some stainless steel parts cost a little more. All prices are subject to change. You will receive my labor price that was given at the time of the quote but if parts, refinishing or other subcontractor work has increased you will be charged the current price at the time of your work.

PAYMENT

I require at least a 50% deposit when you ship your gun and the balance must be paid before I return it to you. 50% is usually all that is required unless the parts necessary cost more than this. You can pay by check, money order or credit card.  Call me to make a credit card payment and I will take your card information over the phone.  For security reasons I do not recommend that you send your credit card info by mail or email.

CANCELLATION

If you decide to cancel your order and I haven't done any work yet, it isn't a problem. Send me an email and I will remove your order from the waiting list. If I have begun work and parts have been ordered and they are something that I can use in another project, I can give you a refund. If it is a special order or other part that I won't use I will charge you for the part and ship it to you. I reserve the right to decide whether to refund your money for the parts or ship the parts to you.

SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS

It is legal to ship your firearm to a licensed dealer like myself. You can ship by UPS or Fed Ex but you can't use the Post Office. UPS requires handguns to be shipped by their Next Day service and you must either drop it off at a UPS center or have it picked up by a UPS driver. They do not allow firearms to be dropped off at The UPS Store or other shipping stores. Fed Ex requires you to use their Overnight Priority service.

You must also specify that an adult signature is required upon delivery and include my phone number with the shipping address. Wrap your gun in bubble-wrap, put it in a sturdy box, use plenty of padding and tape it well. I also recommend that you insure it for replacement cost. I usually return firearms by Fed Ex. Fed Ex charges a few dollars more but they seem to take better care of the packages and aren’t as anti-gun as UPS. Return shipping usually costs about $45 but if you ship a case or other items with your firearm then you will be charged more to cover the additional weight.

If you ship ammo, do not ship it in the same box as your firearm. Ship it separately and using UPS or Fed Ex Ground shipping is fine.

MISCELLANEOUS

Include your magazines if any test firing is to be done.

Your old parts will not be returned unless you request it.

I use military ball or Full Metal Jacket ammo for test firing. If you have a specific type of ammo that you’d like me to use, either ship some to me or specify the ammo type (I’ll charge you the difference in cost between the FMJ and your specified ammo).

Please clean your firearm before shipping. You will be charged $35 for cleaning if you send a dirty gun.
